Loaded Longboards and Adam Colton asked me to provide a trick for the new Loaded Challenge Series.
In case you don’t know, this is a contest Loaded does. You replicate the tricks in their videos, and then you can win some prizes. Its a cool contest.
Anyway — here is the clip — the No-Comply grab.

Relocated from Texas Longboarder

Lately I’ve been into riding my Gravity Mini-Carve around, learning some surf-style walking tricks.
Walking up and down your board, using cross-stepping walks forward and backward, is harder than it looks. It’s also a lot of fun. The longer the board, the better.

I begin this move rolling forward, at a moderate speed, with both feet in the middle of the board. Just cruising down the sidewalk.

As I start the move, I move slightly back toward the tail, and make sure that the ball of my front foot is right in the middle of the board.

I then step quickly forward with my rear foot, bringing it to the front. I put it down sort of sideways across the deck, and turn my body, so that I’m now facing backwards. I have pivoted 180 degrees around the foot in the middle of the board.

Now it’s time to repeat those same steps, and come out rolling forward. The foot that is now on the nose will again step quickly forward, and you will pivot around your front foot.

As you swing your body around, put your foot down wherever it feels comfortable. You have completed 360 degrees of rotation, and are now riding forward in a normal position.

With this trick, it helps a lot of you are fast and smooth. It looks much better if you don’t pause very long at all between halves. If you get really good at this, you can do it without putting your foot down in the middle of the move — just do a 360 spin on your toes. That is called a “Toe Spin”.

Once you get this down, it’s fairly easy to learn it going fakie, which can allow you to put together some cool lines.

Equipment used in this tip: Gravity 42″ Mini-Carve deck, Indy 136 trucks, Gravity wedge risers, Gravity 85a Street-G wheels. Good ol’ NMB bearings.

Here’s yet another move canibalized from the Texas Longboarder site — the 360 Layback, by Clark Walker.

The 360 Layback is a combination of a frontside Fakie 360 and a Layback.

Clark begins the trick by rolling up the wall in a fakie. As he rolls up the wall, he is on the balls of his feet, and he gets ready to lean forward (so he can plant his hand for the layback).

As he approaches the top, he simutaneously begins to pivot the board frontside on the rear wheels, and he plants his rear hand on the wall in front of him.

right click this link and do “save target as” to download video

Clark continues through the move, doing a frontside 360 pivot, with his weight on his rear hand.
Halfway through this move, notice that Clark’s rear wheels are right on the edge of the wall, and the nose is swung completely over the top. Really cool.\

As the board swing the last 180 degrees, Clark uses his momentum to get back up on top of his board. He rides down the wall compressed nice and surf-style, ready to pump the next transition. Killer.

Good luck.

Equipment used: Clark’s old Powell longboard, Indys, Bones Bomber wheels..

Since the contest the other day, several people have mentioned the G-Turn I did in my run. It was sort of a weak G-Turn, but hey, I was pretty tired by then.
Anyway, here’s yet another move canibalized from the Texas Longboarder site (several years ago when I was younger and fatter) — the G-Turn.

The G-Turn is a very old trick. I’m not sure why it’s called a G-Turn. Some say it’s because you roll in sort of a “G” shaped line. Seems like I read, a long time ago, that a guy name “Gordy” invented it. So I’m going with Gordy — gotta honor the inventors.

OK. The G-Turn is a Nose wheelie, done with one foot on the nose and one foot further back on the board. You sort of carve around in the wheelie, until you finally swing the board around and come out rolling backwards (thats “fakie” for you newschoolers out there).

In this clip, I’m doing a frontside G-Turn. I find this version easier, but backside will work too.

Now, here’s how to do it…

right click this link and do “save target as” to download video

If you are going to carve it fronside, have your front foot just a little bit over to the heel-side of the nose for turning leverage. The position of your back foot will depend a lot on the length of your board, so you’ll have to experiment a bit.

Raise the tail by pushing down on the nose, while at the same time turning a bit frontside. I find that if I really press the tips of my toes into the nose, so I can feel the nose really well, it helps me with control.

While keeping the wheelie, carve around in a semi-circle.

As you come around to about 180 degrees, just flow the tail of the board and your body around in a 180 degree pivot. Set the tail down, and roll away backwards.

Now go learn it on banks…

Equipment used in this tip: 48″ Acme “Retroman” deck, 180mm Randal-II trucks, 65mm white Road Rider wheels. Good ol’ NMB bearings.
